The Adventure Travel Show 2016 – 23-24 January 2016, Olympia, London

With the back-to-work blues biting in January, what better way to boost your mood with a visit to the UK’s most exciting travel exhibition. Aimed at those who like to travel outside the mainstream, the show is packed with ideas ranging from safaris and treks to career-changing volunteering projects. Be inspired by talks and seminars from explorers, adventurers and guide book writers; as well as the largest selection of adventure tour operators all under one roof.

My visit last year inspired me to climb North Africa’s highest mountain.  This year, I will be returning again for advice on trekking in Nepal – my next big adventure.  If you fancy doing something radically different with your annual leave next year, here’s your chance to break out the rut.

  1. My dream adventure would be to go to South America – it’s a place I’ve never been and it holds a lot of wonder and excitement with is adventurous landscape. However, as that one is just a dream, I will have to be content with my upcoming conference adventure in Orlando, Florida, where I might just have to fight a gator or two!

  2. I’ve been selected as a volunteer for the Rio 2016 Olympics so I’d love to plan a trip during Summer 2016, taking in the best South America has to offer.

  3. My dream adventure for 2016 is to really explore the beauty and majesty of the Swiss Alps, from one side to the other. I see this as a combination of walking through stunning scenery and experiencing some of the iconic rail and cable car trips that Switzerland has to offer. One of the highlights will include a trip to the Lindt chocolate shop that is conveniently located at the top of the Jungfraujoch.

  4. To experience some of the sights that Ernest Shackleton looks down on from his graveside and be among the thousands of penguins on South Georgia, magical, an experience of a lifetime.

  5. Fantastic prize, would love to attend the show – although it would no doubt cost me in the long run as I’d be highly likely to book trips to multiple destinations thanks to this including; Australia, Japan and Thailand.

  6. My dream adventure for 2016 is to visit Japan! I have always been inspired by Japanese culture and Tokyo looks like an incredibly cool place to go!

I have always been very interested in new technology so JAPAN would be heaven for me!

I’d also love to have a go on their Pachinko machines. In Japan gambling is illegal, so they have these pinball machines where depending on how many pinballs you win, gives you a bigger prize! Would love to give it a go! 🙂

  7. I would love to travel the isle of Great Britain and Scotland and then cross over to Ireland….going to the Celtic, Viking, and Roman sites….stopping at small coastal fishing towns and enjoy the local seafood delicacies

  8. Peru is next on my adventure list. Along with Machu Picchu I’d like to explore the jungle in the north of the country 🙂

  9. I’ve hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (and out again) and across the Tongariro Crossing so next on my list is the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

  10. Gorilla tracking in Rwanda is top of my list. A chance to meet these magnificent creatures would be fabulous, as well as being able to visit the other wildlife packed into this little country.
