1) When did you first start blogging and why?

I started my blog in April 2013 as I’ve always loved writing and travel and this seemed like the perfect way to combine both passions. It’s been a huge learning curve and has helped me to develop a whole host of new skills which range from search engine optimisation through to social media promotion and photography.

2) Have you had any past online presence?

I have created tourism and business micro-sites before and previously wrote online articles for the UK travel trade while working for the French Tourist Board

3) When did you get serious about your blog?

I still view my blog first and foremost as a fun hobby but hope to work in partnership more with attractions and accommodation providers in 2014 to provide new features and to support other tourism businesses.

4) What was your first blog post?

My first blog post was about carnival season in Europe with a focus on the Nice and Venice Carnivals

5) What have been your biggest challenges blogging?

My biggest challenges have been finding the time to blog regularly in between the demands of a full-time job and also fitting in the social media promotion which can take up as much time as writing the actual blog posts.  Blogging is very time-consuming but also completely addictive if you find a topic that you’re really passionate about.

6) What is the most rewarding thing about blogging?

The most rewarding thing about blogging is the creative outlet that it provides and the constant challenge of coming up with new subjects which will appeal to readers.  I also love promoting quirky British destinations and events as there’s so much on our own doorstep which is often overlooked.

7) What is the most discouraging thing about blogging?

The most discouraging thing for me is the technical glitches which inevitably occur and also the length of time that it takes to build up a loyal following of readers which can take years!

8) What is your lasting inspiration/ motivation?

My motivation is to get continually better at writing and to make the most of my free time outside of work to have new experiences and create lasting memories into the future

9) What do your friends think of your blogging adventure?

My friends have been extremely supportive and I hope that my experience will encourage a few of them to start up blogs of their own

10) Where do you dream your blog will take you?

Like so many others, I would love to blog on a full-time basis but in the meantime, it will push me to keep exploring new destinations to break out of the 9-5 rut!
